Hummer

May 2012  Adam from the Wairarapa had been pig hunting with family and their dogs for long enough and wanted his own pig dog.  He decided to take on 6 month old Hummer who had started coming out with me in the bush.

Previously I'd been taking Hummer and his sister Kenya out to my block to start getting some bush sense.  On their third time out I'd let the pups crash out for a while after walking for a few hours.  I had Echo (pups mother) and older sister Sendai also out of Echo with me as well.  While all the dogs were asleep I hear a noise coming from a ridge behind me, turning around I see two piglets trotting straight towards us, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Hummer asleep  I woke all the dogs as quietly as I could pointing them in the direction of the piglets.

Hummer was the closest to their direction of travel and without hesitation took off after them crabbing one and with one good shake killed it instantly.

After telling Adam the piglet story and that on the way out of the bush that day Hummer was keen as checking all pig runs hoping for more action.  Adam and Nina also wanted their pig dog to be a pet and good with children which Hummer was, so they took him home.

January 2013  Adam was very pleased with how Hummer was going, these are their photos and update.

Hi Michelle
Hummer is doing really well.  He's a great family pet, is great with our other dogs and the cat and most importantly with our daughter.  We started taking him out to hunt in December 2012 and in his first hunt caught a 50lbr.  The next week he caught the scent of an 80lbr and bailed that up easily with a different pack of dogs. He took over the pack like the first time which is great.

And finally last week after only two months out he found and bailed a 130lb sow with no fear at all.  He has an absolute love of hunting and pleasing us. He slips back into pet mode and chills out on the farm so he has a great temperament for our family.

I've attached a few pic's for you so you can see hows he's grown.

Cheers, Nina and Adam
